Unit Manager for the Guidance & Career Support Department
The Labor Market and Adult Education has the overall responsibility for the city's municipal adult education and for all labor market policy measures in the city. Together, we create conditions for studies and work for Gothenburg residents of all ages, from young people getting their first jobs to adults being given the opportunity to change careers.
To succeed in our mission, we collaborate with engaged entrepreneurs, academia, global companies, civil society, and of course with the rest of the city. With us, you provide new opportunities for both Gothenburg residents and businesses every day.
We are the administration that prepares Gothenburg residents for both the present and the future!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Due to retirement, we are looking for a unit manager!
The Guidance & Career Support Department guides and maps people's needs to help them move on to the next step, whether it concerns work, education, or new skills. Here, a cohesive path is created from labor market initiatives to adult education in collaboration both within the administration and with external actors.
In the Learning and Career Hub, there are 15 study and career informants, and as a unit manager, you work with an employee perspective by supporting staff in their daily work, in direct contact with Gothenburg residents. You are expected to lead based on continuous improvements, and your leadership should focus on clarity, communication, and responsiveness. You are part of the department's management team along with other unit managers and business developers.
Currently, a broader mission for the unit is being shaped, where the unit manager is responsible for coordinating and developing the administration's visitor areas. The unit will increasingly be present in common meeting places around the city, where other professionals from the administration are also represented. The department is responsible for coordinating and contributing to ensuring that visitors receive equivalent information at the meeting places, in an appealing and learning environment.
The unit is responsible for, for example, conducting meetings to prepare Gothenburg residents for future professions and/or studies and increasing their knowledge to a greater extent to own their own process. This is done in collaboration with other services in the administration through process work and development.
The role includes several collaboration areas, such as educational providers and companies in the city. You need to feel confident leading change and applying a structured and process-oriented approach. An important part is that you work with operational follow-ups that include statistics, systematic work environment, and are proactive in quality work. We are looking for a present and secure leader who contributes a holistic perspective and creates operational conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
You should have a bachelor's degree (180 credits or equivalent) in behavioral science, pedagogy, study and career guidance, or another field that the employer deems relevant. You have documented managerial experience where personnel, budget, operational responsibility, and systematic work environment efforts have occurred. You should have previously led complex organizations and have work experience that has given you a good understanding of change work and be fluent in Swedish and English, both written and spoken. Principal training and experience working in a politically governed organization are considered advantageous. Previous experience in adult education and labor market issues, as well as experience in collaboration, partnership cooperation, and/or MBL are also considered advantageous.
You should have a good overview of your own area of responsibility and take into account different perspectives to stay up to date with the outside world, in order to create and maintain networks. Together with your management team, you will develop plans and goals, which you will work towards and follow up with the support of your department head. You need to be able to identify and analyze the core of problems based on available information and distinguish between the main and the secondary. You need to be stable and secure, work effectively, and be able to make well-founded decisions under time pressure.
You need to have a broad perspective on work-related issues where the development of your employees is a focus. Since you will partially lead staff remotely and be involved in various collaborations, you will have a wide network internally and externally, which requires you to be a good communicator who gets support for your ideas. You can encourage both good performance and a strong team spirit through persuasive arguments and by bringing enthusiasm. It is also important that you have the ability to be structured and work in an organized manner.
As the administration undergoes significant change work, it is important that you see yourself as a natural part of the change and the process-oriented approach that the administration is working towards. Together with employees and colleagues, you will carry out the unit's mission and support other services in the administration with your combined expertise, while smoothly supporting the ongoing development of the administration as a whole. In your role, you contribute to a good work environment and work for cohesion that creates a team spirit within the administration.
